Books on Muscle Building With the overwhelming amount of information out there are building muscle, strength training, and nutrition, many people are turning to special bodybuilding books to help them learn how to build muscle mass. This article will explain the key things you should look for in bodybuilding books before you buy them. Make sure the books you are looking at are a good product from the get-go! At the end of the article, discover the best way to build muscle fast and effectively. One of the biggest misconceptions about bodybuilders is that they are somehow not strong, and that you don't need to lift heavy weights to get big. Nothing could be further from the truth. A good bodybuilding book will advise you on how to get strong as a means to get bigger. McCallums book comes across like advice from a well-meaning uncle - if your uncle weighed 230 pounds of solid muscle. The book is a collection of articles and each article seamlessly intertwines rock-solid advice with masterful storytelling. The book covers all topics of interest, including weight lifting, gaining weight, losing fat, quitting smoking, mental training exercises and everything else you need. Muscle building is not a precise science where one size fits all. We are humans and we are all unique individuals in the way our bodies respond to training activities and diets. Hence, a good book should lay out the foundation principles of muscle building and what exact role is played by diets, exercises, metabolism, hormones, etc. on muscle building. Then there are natural bodybuilding books that WILL help you. In fact, I review some of the best bodybuilding books on the Internet which you can see below in my bios... The best books are the ones that incorporate a complete program... covering nutrition, workouts and supplements. As for how much you eat, the book should discuss you overall calorie intake and how it compares to your overall calorie expenditure. To build new bodily tissue of ANY kind, you must take in more energy than you burn every day. This is the only way to supply enough energy to build bigger muscles. So keep in mind while you are out there shopping for these books, you need to look past just the cover and start noticing the table of contents, looking through the chapters, and make sure it will fit you needs, and give you the results you have been desiring for all those years. I hope this has helped you and best of luck to all you skinny guys struggling to gain muscle mass. Body like Arnold Schwarzenegger THE BEGINNINGS Arnold Schwarzenegger is without any doubt one of the biggest stars Hollywood has ever known. And then we aren't only speaking about size. He's also the proof that everybody with a dream and a lot of perseverance can realize his dreams. Arnold was born on July 30, 1947 in Thal (4 miles from Graz), Austria. He grew up on the second floor of the 300-year-old home at 145 Thal-Linak with his parents Gustav and Aurelia and his older brother Meinhard. He's married to the American TV-presenter Maria Owings Shriver (in 1986). They have four children: Katherine Eunice Schwarzenegger, Christina Aurelia Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Christopher Sergant Schwarzenegger (born: September 27th , 1997). Co-owns a restaurant in Santa Monica called 'Schatzi on Main' ... Jim Lorimer and Arnold are responsible for the Arnold Classic Pro Bodybuilding & Fitness shows, which has been held for the last 10 years in Columbus, Ohio, usually in March. At the Arnold Classic 1997, he received the IFBB Gold Order Award, proclaiming him the greatest bodybuilder of the 20th century. Arnold 's biggest dream was to be the greatest ever by winning the Mr. Olympia title went crushed after he lost to Sergio Oliva in 1969. But it was his sheer determination that led him to the supreme title in 1970 and he proved to the World that was not a mere luck or fluke as he went on to win the same title in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975. He decided to call it a day by announcing his retirement from the World of professional bodybuilding after the 1975 win. He went to fame before the 1975 Mr. Olympia contest when renowned film-makers Robert Fiore and George Butler went on to make the all-time bodybuilder's hit "Pumping Iron" with him. Arnold Schwarzenegger bodybuilding tips include a healthy nutrition and a well-designed workout regime. According to him, mind plays an important role for building your muscles. You have to be focused enough for attaining a well-toned body. Almost every body builder follows Arnold. He is considered a demi-god in the world of bodybuilding. Seven times winner of Mr. Olympia, protagonist of movies like Terminator, True lies and the present Governor of California is a name to reckon. Arnold Schwarzenegger as he grew up in Austria and came to America. Early on he became fascinated with body building and arguably became one of the world's most successful. These events transpire long before his political star began to rise. Instead we see the strong, interesting, driven, and insightful person who was able to build his body and his personality in to a world-class commodity. In the nutritional section he mentions about his common use of alcohol. Everyone knows that alcohol hurts bodybuilding gains, so either he exaggerated or more proof he has probably the best bodybuilding genetics ever. With todays mass monsters in the Olympia, they couldn’t even look at Alcohol, if they wanted to get to that ripped bf% they compete at currently. The overall diet recommendations aren’t too bad though, certainly much better than his training recommendations. Treating Asthma Naturally Asthma is an illness where irritants cause inflammation of the bronchial tubes, as they become very sensitive, and thus making it difficult to breath. Contraction of the muscles around the wind pipe can be a result of this inflammation. The inflammation can also cause excessive mucus in the air passage as well as swelling of the lining may occur if its an airway inflammation. As a overall statement, Mother Nature has provided a cure for every disease known to mankind. Sometimes, humans underestimate the force of mother nature and proportionately overestimate their capacity to intervene. It is true that modern science has achieved the capacity for miraculous results. However, it is still far behind the breathtaking power of nature. Here are some of the more recognized natural asthma remedies. Treatment: 1. Fish oil products – used as anti-inflammatories. These may be taken in liquid or capsule form. Be careful if you have any known food allergies, as fish oil may cause significant and severe reactions. 2. Ipecacuanha This particular remedy is provided to those sufferers who have coughing spasms which results in them either retching or vomiting. Also it is great for treating those who find that the mucus (phlegm) collects in their breathing tubes and when they try to cough it out they find it extremely difficult to do so. 3. Antioxidants are also very effective. They include selenium, supplements of green tea, Vitamin E and various other products that were made to reduce the liberated radicals existing in the human body. Liberated radicals are mainly because of cough, cold and other such respiratory problems that adds to the irritation. 4. You should be looking for a remedy that is able to reduce the amount of mucus being produced, as well as one that is able to reduce the inflammation that will occur in the lungs. Also look for ones that will help to reduce your stress levels both emotionally and physically. Unfortunately for many people suffering from asthma when they have an attack things can be made much worse when they become stressed. Finally you should look for an asthma natural remedy that will also help to boost your immune system. 5. Boswellia This is more commonly referred to as Salai Guggal in Indian Ayurvedic medicine and in studies that have been carried out, it has been found to restrict the production of leukotrienes in the body. Leukotrienes is the compound when able to be released in to the lungs will cause the airways to become narrowed and so a person’s breathing becomes much more difficult and labored. 6. As per the different studies and researches, the intake of fruits and vegetables minimize the risk of asthma in adults as well as children. Garlic proves to be an excellent medicine when consumed after boiling with milk. Ginger tea along with garlic is also used in the treatment of asthma. Turmeric powder mixed with milk is an effective medicine to treat asthma. Consumption of carrots and tomatoes, along with leafy vegetables, is helpful to keep asthma at bay. Sure Shot Treatment for Anorexia In general, anorexia is an eating disorder where people voluntarily limit their food intake in order to lose weight while starving their bodies in the process. People that suffer from this eating disorder are usually around the beginning of their puberty, and most of these people are women. Anorexia is no laughing matter. It is a very serious condition that is potentially life threatening. It is our jobs as parents to spot the symptoms of anorexia as soon as possible in order to seek out proper medical help before it is too late. The more time that we procrastinate the harder it is to cure. People who fall victim to this disorder need anorexia help tips and strategies in order to conquer it. Since anorexia is psychological in nature, it can be treated in a psychological way. The most urgent treatment for anorexics is to gain weight. This is needed especially in extreme cases involving the victim's hospitalization. Treatment: 1. Today, treatment regarding anorexia has undergone tremendous changes and innovations. In severe or critical cases, weight gain is the first remedy or first aid in treating anorexia. This is done by supplementing the victim with 14 milligrams of zinc. 2. Sychotherapy, rather than drug therapy, is the first line of treatment for anorexia. A mental health professional trained to treat eating disorders encourages the patient to gain weight by increasing daily caloric intake by 300 calories every two weeks. The psychotherapist also tries to determine the psychosocial issues affecting the sufferer's body image, and seek to build her sense of self-worth and a more positive body image. In severe cases, bed rest with supervised meals are called for until patient has gained 10 to 20 pounds. 3. The treatment for those with anorexia consists in making them gain weight and eat so they can re-establish the body's balance. Most of them refuse to admit they have a problem so they must be forced to do it. Besides this, psychiatric treatment is needed, in order to make the patients realize that they have a problem and that in fact it's all in their head that they are not thin enough. 4. The next component of anorexia treatment is nutritional counseling, where a nutritionist or dietician teaches the patient about balanced meals, healthy eating and proper nutrition. The nutritionists will also help patients develop and follow meal plans containing sufficient calories to reach and maintain a normal, healthy weight. 5. Psychotherapy starts when a trusting relationship with the patient has been established. A number of issues have to be addressed: body image, anxiety, depression, fears, eating habits and other concerns. The most difficult one is the body image issue because the person is absolutely obsessed with being thin and staying thin. Putting on weight which is crucial for recovery can become a major fear for the sufferer that is difficult to overcome. 6. The ultimate goal of treatment is to restore long term health. Anorexia patients often suffer from low self esteem, building confidence and a recognition of self worth is of primary importance. Varicose and its Sure Shot Treatment Varicose veins are one of the few conditions that have both medical and psychological implications. Varicose veins, also known as spider veins, usually occur as a result of faulty valves or other problems within a vein that impede the normal flow of blood. This cause blood to pool in the vein making it enlarged, twisted and visible. Though it can occur in any part of the body, it is most commonly found in the back of the lower part of the leg. For well over 60 sixty years natural treatment with bioflavoniods has shown it has the ability to improve venous health, including varicose vein and bruises. OPCs (Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins) have been known to help repair some varicose veins, and reduce the occurrence of new varicose veins. OPCs have the ability to strengthen capillaries, the body's smallest blood vessels. The symptoms of varicose vein are not common in everybody. It also does not happen that every body suffers from these symptoms. Here is a look at those varicose veins symptoms: The blood veins will enlarge abnormally and look as if there are some lumps under the skin. These veins will look entangled and twisted and therefore very ugly and frightening. Treatment: 1. The procedure called Sclerotherapy uses a liquid chemical to close off the vein, via injection. The process needs to be repeated every 4 to 6 weeks. Following treatments, legs are wrapped elastic bandages to decrease swelling and promote healing. 2. Believe it or not, pineapples also contain a natural chemical that treats varicose veins. The chemical, called bromelain, reduces the swelling and soreness that are caused by varicose veins. Bromelain can be taken in capsule form. 3. Onions, apples, and black tea have also been found to help varicose vein problems. These foods have a chemical called quercetin, which is an anti-inflammatory. Quercetin also comes in capsule form. It should be taken together with bromelain for optimum effectiveness. 4. One of the best methods to prevent and cure spider veins is to refrain from standing still for a long time in in place. When standing still, blood can pool in the veins of the legs, and the blood doesn't have the benefit of muscular movement to help push it back towards the heart. 5. An extract made from the Japanese pagoda tree is one of the better known herbal supplements for spider veins, having been in use since the sixties. The extract is known to have good results in increasing the strength and flexibility of veins while reducing inflammation. This extract has also been demonstrated to reduce the pooling of blood in the legs and improve circulation. 6. The herb Marigold is of great value for treating varicose veins. External application of flowers of this plant works wonders in curing the inflamed conditions of the skin. 7. A plant in the lily family, Butcher's broom (Ruscus aculeatus) is also known as box holly or knee holly. It contains ruscogenins, constituents believed to strengthen collagen in blood vessel walls and improve circulation. This is thought to tighten weak, stretched vessels such as those associated with varicose veins. Treating Sunburn Naturally Most everyone has experienced the painful effects of sunburn to some degree. Whether one is on vacation at the beach, working an outdoor job, or spending time gardening in the back yard, the person who forgets to use sun protection knows all too well the consequences of getting burned. In treating any problem I prefer the natural method as I do not like the chemicals that are used in over-the-counter medications. One natural sunburn treatment you can administer yourself is to drink plenty of water, keeping your skin hydrated. It was impossible to take a hot shower after a sun burn so I had to soak myself in a cool bath for about 30 minutes, it felt great actually. Treatment: 1. Emu Oil is a natural anti-inflammatory that helps the skin heal quickly and re-hydrates burned tissue. It is often used to treat burns, lacerations, and helps prevent scarring by promoting new, healthy skin cell growth. Jojoba Oil is a naturally-derived plant extract that moisturizes and encourages healing. It mimics our natural oils and improves elasticity and moisturization to burns - alleviating the tightening sensation and encouraging quick recovery and relief. 2. Make mixture of wheat flour mixed with milk, olive oil, or barley flour, honey, and raw egg white paste. It will be a best facial for sunburn skin. 3. or mild sunburn, apply a moisturising lotion or a special aftersun cream from a pharmacy. Aftersun helps to cool the skin as well as moisturising and relieving the feeling of tightness. Calamine lotion can also be used to relieve itching and soreness. 4. If you have sunburn, then it most certainly means that your skin has become dehydrated. You will have to replenish the water content. Drink lots of water (even though it makes you urinate a lot), and also stick to a liquid diet if possible for one whole day. Eat a lot of fruits that are high in water content such as watermelons, oranges, sweet limes and cantaloupes. 5. Make mixture of wheat flour mixed with milk, olive oil, or barley flour, honey, and raw egg white paste. It will be a best facial for sunburn skin. 6. Put one small box of baking soda to the bathtub and immerse the body in it. It will provide relief from burns. 7. Until the sunburn has healed, stay out of the sun and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Dehydration is frequently a by-product of a sunburn. Avoid drinking alcohol because it can dehydrate skin further. 8. There is a plus side to getting sunburn and that is the skin that peels off, mostly on the shoulders. Peeling off the skin was always fun and I liked to see what was the biggest piece I could get off at once, gross I know. Sunburn treatments are very simple to do, or you can just stay out the sun all together and won't have to worry about getting sunburned. Treating Ringworms Naturally Ringworm is a fungus and can appear on the feet, nails, scalp and other areas of the body. It is probably best known on the feet under the phrase athlete's foot. Ringworm can spread to different sections of your body so good hygiene is a must. Avoid scratching and touching the spots, as tempting as that may be. It starts as a small red mark similar to a pimple, but grows in little circles. It is not a parasite or a worm, though that is the common association. Treatment: 1. Common treatments for Ringworm include over the counter anti-fungal creams or powders. There are also doctor prescribed treatments available. While undergoing treatment for Ringworm it is important to keep the skin clean and dry. Also, be sure to wash your sheets and pajamas every day while infected. 2. All you need to do is purchase some anti-fungal cream at your local pharmacy and apply it to the infected area. Most home treatment for ringworm creams are available without prescription. Make sure you wash the infected area thoroughly and remove any flaky skin. After that just dry the infected part and apply the home treatment for ringworm ointment. You will start to see results in a couple of days. Most of these creams will remove the infection in approximately 4 weeks. 3. The seeds of butea are effective in treating several skin problems including ringworm and eczema. A poultice of the leaves is prepared and applied on the affected regions. 4. Depending on what part of your body is infected with ringworm will determine the length of time it takes to fully cure yourself. Scalp ringworm can take up to ten weeks to cure with a conventional treatment that is prescribed by your doctor. A scalp ringworm cure from your doctor is a shampoo and an oral anti fungal drug. The oral anti fungal is needed because the shampoo in ineffective on its own for the reason it cannot penetrate your scalp to fully cure the infection. 5. Vinegar cure is similar to the tea tree oil one. Use apple cider vinegar and a q-tip. Apply the vinegar on the affected area a few times a day. Don't wash it away, just let it dry and apply it over the last application. 6. Clean it with soap. Some people say that Selsun Blue, the shampoo for dandruff may be used to clean the ringworm well. It will help clean and reduce the spread of fungus. 7. Another fascinating folk remedy is the "paper method." People who use this, burn a crumpled sheet of notebook paper in a porcelain plate, and use the ashes or residue as salve for ringworm treatment. Imagine that. 8. Ringworm home remedies can penetrate your skin to kill the fungus that is deep rooted, and they can also be used on your nails and scalp without the need for any oral medicines. They have no side effects, and your health will not be affected either. 9. You can see that home remedies for ringworm and natural cures for your fungal skin infections have plenty of advantages, but some people still prefer the advice of their doctor. At least you know you have a choice. Read About home remedies Also Read About home remedies for rheumatism and home remedies for ringworm | | 3:47 pm |
How to Treat Prostate Gland Naturally If you have found you have a large prostate, how is it treated? An enlarged prostate gland, also called BPH (Benign prostatic hypertrophy/hyperplasia), can be treated in various ways depending on the amount of growth and. The prostate gland is the male gland that produces the fluid that carries sperm. The prostate gland lies around the tube that passes the urine out of the body, the urethra. Essentially the prostate gland is an exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system and even though there is similarity between it and other species of the male mammals but to some extent it differs anatomically, chemically, and physiologically. The key role of the prostate gland is to accumulate and ooze a clear, watery liquid that make up one-third of the amount of semen Treatment: 1. If the gland is overly large, external beam radiotherapy may be used to reduce its size. An x-ray type machine delivers controlled amounts of radiation to a specific target--in this case the prostate gland. Various forms range from photon to proton radiotherapy. "Seeding" is another form of radiation treatment in which radioactive "seeds" are implanting inside the gland. 2. Radical prostatectomy is surgery that removes the whole gland and the lymph nodes (which are part of the lymph system in a human) which are located next to it. This is a surgery that's done under a general anesthesia, and there's a hospital stay involved, along with the use of a catheter to help with urination for about 3 weeks. Both of these therapies have high success rates, and also a few downsides (especially the slight chance of impotence with both procedures), so make sure you consult with your physician.Prostate cancer doesn't have to be a killer. 3. Keeping to a balanced diets and a habitual exercise program coupled with an annual screening is essential to ward off any problems that might arise from your prostate gland. A fitter body is able to better able to fight any diseases that occur from the prostate and your body in general. Although with proper care, there is no guarantee that you will not be afflicted with prostate cancer but prevention with the rights diets, a regular exercise can to some extent aid you in preventing prostate cancer and keep your prostate gland in good health. 4. Hog weed is known in Ayurveda as punarnava. It is prescribed in case of all urinary problems that are caused due to prostate ailments. 5. Gokshura or small caltrop, is an indigenous Indian herb which is commonly used in treatment of urinary complications caused due to prostate problems. Its fruit is effective in such cases. It is ground roughly and boiled in two cups of water till it is reduced to half the amount. This is drunk along with sugar. 6. The modern medicines for enlarged prostate although do reduce its size but often carry dangerous side effects like inability to achieve erections, frequent urination associated with ''BPH'' is most of the times not cured, and mostly as soon as you stop taking the drugs the problem often returns. Tips of Avoiding Miscarriage It can be difficult to know how to avoid miscarriage, but often there are warning signs. You need to react quickly if you experience any of the signs. Miscarriages happen most often within the first 13 weeks of pregnancy. The causes are often unknown, but can commonly be chromosomal, meaning there was something not right with the baby's chromosomes. Here are a few warning signs to look out for that may, though not necessarily so, indicate the onset of a miscarriage. Tips: 1. Don't smoke or drink alcohol during your pregnancy. This should be obvious, but too many women ignore the evidence that smoking and drinking, especially during pregnancy, is dangerous and can lead to miscarriage. 2. Zinc is the most important mineral for the reproductive system. Zinc deficiency among many other things impairs body's ability to properly maintain pregnancy in women and produce healthy sperm in men. 3. All foods that can aggravate the pitta must be avoided. This will lead to an improper digestive fire, leading to constipation. Constipation must be prevented during pregnancy at all costs. 4. The American diet is about as bad as it gets and as other countries get more “Americanized” their diets are declining as well. Even though I’ve always maintained a body weight that was in the normal range, I still wasn’t eating foods that promoted fertility. I researched food and nutrition publications and followed a diet high in hormone regulating foods, fruits and vegetables. Regulating hormones is also critical in preventing miscarriage. As a bonus, foods that are good for fertility are happen to be great anti-aging strategies as well! It’s great for my ego when people ask me “Are you going to have another baby?” and I am now 47 years old! 5. If women consult a physician before they consider getting pregnant and plan a pregnancy, exercise caution and take the necessary precautions, they can have a successful healthy pregnancy. These are a few facts about pregnancy miscarriage and a few tips on how to avoid it. 6. Since it is believed that raised hormone levels and higher levels of insulin in overweight women are to blame for the miscarriage of healthy babies, it is suggested that women intending to get pregnant work at getting their weight to fall in the normal BMI range before conception. 7. Women with reproductive difficulties may successfully deliver a baby through Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). The cost of ART varies, depending on the complexity of the method the doctor uses. ART is usually successful in three cycles. Be sure ask your doctor to define 'success' before you make your down payment, because some clinics define success as any conception, and others define it as taking home a baby. 8. When trying to conceive it's best to stay clear from all the alcohol. Alcohol is very harmful to woman's eggs and men sperm before conception. As little as ONE glass can reduce fertility by 50%! This can further lead to damage of developing embryo and result in a miscarriage. 9. Becoming pregnant after miscarriage won't replace the lost pregnancy but may help you by refocusing your attention. 10. Taking good care of the mother to be during the early months of pregnancy is very important. Even if there is no appetite due to morning sickness, good care should be taken and an attempt to have something nourishing. Women who have had miscarriages can still have healthy babies later. Liver Care Our liver works hard for us all day every day but it is perhaps the organ we pay the least attention to, at least until it goes on strike. When your liver isn't functioning properly, you experience such symptoms as chronic fatigue and muscle aches. The liver regulates our metabolism and blood sugar, and helps us digest fats, use the nutrients from our food, eliminate toxins from our body, and heal. Yet in its struggle to keep us healthy, it is often overtaxed. And while we concentrate heavily on keeping our hearts healthy, many of us neglect our liver. Treatment: 1. Chicory is one of the most useful herbs in treatment of liver problems. Almost all parts of the herb are important – flowers, seeds and roots. The juice of the chicory plant promotes the secretion of the bile. Hence it is used in different ways in treating liver problems such as bilary stasis, sluggishness of the liver, bile obstruction, jaundice and enlargement of the spleen. 2. The suggested amount of fiber is 25-30 grams of fiber per day. You need fiber to absorb bile properly otherwise the toxins in the bile can be reabsorbed back into your system. Plus, proper amounts of fiber will help keep your colon clean, help to lower cholesterol, and can reduce weight gain by giving you a feeling of fullness. 3. Proper hydration is essential to any detox program. This component cannot be skipped. Fortunately, it is the easiest to take care of. Plenty of pure water (which is not available from the tap!) with a slice of lemon will get the process started. Ideally, you would add electrolytic minerals or zeta crystals to the water. 4. As pitta will be elevated, diet should include those which help in cooling. As there is imbalance of agni diet should be an easy to digest one. Most fresh fruits are acceptable but exclude acid forming fruits. Eat vegetable raw or steamed with slight ghee ( Clarified butter) to help the agni to burn evenly. 5. You can improve you liver health if you haven't damaged it too badly. You liver can regenerate liver cells if any sign of disease can be caught before it becomes a major problem. A life style change may help your liver repair itself. Eating to much can cause your liver to work over time, if it is necessary to eat in between meals try a salad, piece of fruit, or some juice. 6. When a person consumes too much alcohol, the liver can swell with fat, enabling a condition called fatty liver. When the fat becomes inflamed during certain circumstances, it could potentially lead to either alcoholic hepatitis, a serious condition with the liver. Alcoholic hepatitis causes serious but generally reversible liver damage, or in worst case scenario, cirrhosis, which causes irreversible liver damage. 7. A yogasana aims to attain a sustained and comfortable sitting posture to facilitate meditation. They also have wide range of therapeutic use. Meditation helps to calm the mind. Yoga also helps to cultivate Sattva (superlative quality of mind) and Ojas ( ultimate positive energy in the body)which is critical for a positive mind frame and healing process. Headache and its Natural Treatment Headaches rank amongst the most common and frequent ailments. A headache is not a disease, but may be indicative of other underlying problems. Although common and generally not serious, headaches are common in about 50-75% of all teens. However, recurrent headaches can upset and worry an individual to a great extent. The most common types of headaches that people in their teens and early twenties have are tension headaches and migraines. In some cases these problems may require a visit to a medical provider. Treatment: 1. If oral medications are causing your headache nausea, you may ask your healthcare provider about migraine medications that come in the form of a nasal spray or ones that dissolve under your tongue. The nasal medications are sprayed into your nose at the onset of your headache and can actually help prevent the headache from becoming severe. 2. Eat foods which are nutritionally rich and low in calories. (Vegetables, fruits, etc.) 3. Avoid all refined and processed foods. (No cake, cookies, crackers, pasta or white bread.) 4. Many headaches are caused by dehydration, which causes muscle contraction. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day is recommended, not only to prevent and relieve headaches but essential to maintaining general well-being. 5. There is another type of holistic medicine that can help chronic headaches and that is acupuncture. Acupuncturists can activate pressure points and nerves on the body that can help end the pain associated with chronic headaches. 6. Not all headaches require medical attention. Some physicians recommend adding more exercise to your daily routine or removing certain foods from your diet. Stress management can also aid in the reduction of headaches, especially migraine. Over the counter drugs, which contain acetaminophen or paracetamol, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, tylenol and advil can help reduce the pain associated with headache. 7. Headaches can be caused by tight muscles at the base of the skull, which compress both the blood vessels and the nerves. You can release the tightness by tucking your chin, interlacing your fingers behind your head, and gently pressing your head back into your hands (which provide resistance). Hold for about a count of eight and repeat several times. 8. Shiatsu is a form of acupressure rather than acupuncture. As a natural remedy for migraine, shiatsu massage helps relieve tension and reduce stress. Whereas migraine tends to block blood flow or cause “overflow” to the lower head, shiatsu massage releases the blood flow and energy, restoring natural flow. 9. The other things was to consume lots of water. Some headaches are caused by muscle spasms in the neck and properly hydrated muscles are less likely to spasm and cause pain. 10. Sometimes gently pulling on your hair will help to reduce pressure and pain. You would need to start at the back of the neck and gently tug on the hair as close to the scalp as you can. Do this for at least 3 to 5 seconds then let go and work your way to the front of the head. Dry Skin and its Sure Treatment If you are looking for a dry skin remedy, look no farther than your kitchen pantry. You can make a dry skin natural remedy just by combining common foods and applying them to the skin. Some foods act as an internal remedy for dry skin as well. Some of the ingredients that can be used in a home remedy for extremely dry skin are honey, yogurt, olive oil, and oatmeal. Some herb teas are useful, too, as are a variety of other fruits and seeds. Treatment: 1. Honey, a dry skin natural remedy, is a substance that is healing to the skin. When applied to the skin it is healing and moisturizing. It helps dead skin cells move from the surface and stimulates renewal and re growth of skin tissues. It is also antibacterial. In severe cases, you can put honey on skin that needs a bandage. It will keep the bandage from sticking to the wounded skin. 2. Olive or almond oil and egg yolk can also alleviate dryness. Mix one yolk in a tea spoon of olive oil and add rose water and apply this mask on your skin. Leave for 15 minutes and wash with a face wash. 3. Silicone creams – If your dry skin is caused from frequent hand washing or harsh work conditions, a cream that contains silicone might be your best bet. The silicone is water resistant and forms a barrier between your skin and the elements. 4. If your palms turn rough due to hard work and excessive drying of the skin, it would be more advisable if you would apply into the affected part a mixture of lime juice and coconut oil. Doing so would greatly and effectively scrap dry skin. 5. Rose water, almond oil, honey, olive oil, and beaten curd can all be used as good face packs. Other than this, daily massage or facial sauna with herbal oils and use of mild detergent and fragrance free soap can work wonders on dry skin. 6. When I first developed dry skin and eczema, I was eating hamburgers, pizzas, chips, candy, sodas and all those processed junk foods. Each time I ate one of those foods my skin would start to itch and become dry, this was the cause for my eczema. So my first treatment for dry skin step was to eliminate all these foods or at least stop eating as much of them as I had. 7. Dry skin tends to look dull due to lack of Vitamin E in the skin. This can be taken care of by using the lotions that are rich in vitamin E. This produces a glowing and healthy skin. 8. Use bath oils and moisturizers daily. Cosmetics should be used carefully because they may cause allergic reactions like contact dermatitis. Dry your skin gently and thoroughly, patting not rubbing. 9. Cucumber is beneficial if the dryness is especially over the face. The juices of the cucumber have a cooling effect on the face. Also the juices provide the lost water content to the face and reduce its dryness. 10. Lavender oil and oat meal extract provides a lot of relief to dehydrated bodies. Tea tree oil can be added to bath water as it provides a lot of moisturizing. After the bath, it is important to moisturize the body with aloe vera cream since it helps to recover natural oils and retain suppleness in the skin. Dandruff Problem and its Treatment Your scalp feels itchy and you feel so embarrassed trying to scratch in private when no ones noticing. Sounds familiar? Its most likely that you are suffering from dandruff. Causes of dandruff are varied ranging from poor nutrition, frequent usage of strong shampoos, constipation, high stress levels to name a few most likely reasons for dandruff. Dandruff, scientifically termed as pityriasis capitis, is caused by a fungus called Pityrosporum ovale or Malassezia furfur. These fungi make the scalp dry, which causes the formation of scales and flakes. Though scalp's skin normally flakes off due to regeneration of skin cells, dandruff is excessive flaking and it is abnormal. Other people consider dandruff as an allergy resulting from a trigger like food and excessive sweating. Treatment: 1. This one needs a bit more advance preparation but nothing too complicated - just mainly time. Soak a few tablespoons of fenugreek seeds overnight in a bowl of water. Next day, grind the seeds into a paste - a regular food blender works fine for this. Once you've got your paste, massage it into your scalp and leave it there for about an hour before rinsing the mixture out. 2. Boil five teaspoons of dried used tea leaves in lime water and use it as a last rinse after shampoo. It will give the hair a lustrous shine and provides nourishment too. 3. Rosemary, Sage, Thyme or Neem - Make a strong tea-like solution from either Rosemary, Sage, Thyme or Neem leaves by adding the leaves to boiling water and leaving to brew for 24 hours. Strain and pour water over just-washed hair and leave in. 4. One of the best ways to control dandruff is to apply a mixture of vinegar and water on the scalp. Make a mixture of 2 teaspoons of vinegar and 6 teaspoons of water and apply it on the scalp before you go to bed. Keep it for the whole night with a towel around the head. Rinse your head with vinegar water again in the morning. If you continue to treat your hair with it for few months, it will serve your purpose. 5. Most widely used active ingredient used to treat dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema and numerous other skin and scalp disorders. Synthesized in the 1930's, has strong anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. 6. Massage your scalp with warm coconut oil mixed with 1 teaspoon of boric powder. Let the oil sit for about 2 hours. Then wash off with the natural home made anti-dandruff shampoo. 7. Using baking soda is another way to get rid of dandruff and use a little oil to lubricate your scalp afterwards. The hair may be dry for a while, but after a few treatments your hair will be soft, shiny and dandruff free. 8. There are several things that you can do to prevent dandruff. One easy way is to apply a mixture of 8 table spoons peanut oil and the juice of half a lemon. Avoid the use of soaps, chemical shampoos, greasy creams, other hair products containing chemicals. Avoid hair treatments like bleaching, perming, and excessive use of hair dryers. 9. Dampen tamarind using water and combine it with molasses. Put this mixture on your scalp and after an hour, cleanse it using a shampoo. Do this once each week. Treatment for Cirrhosis of Liver Cirrhosis is a slowly progressing disease in which healthy liver tissue is replaced with scar tissue, eventually preventing the liver from functioning properly. The scar tissue blocks the flow of blood through the liver and slows the processing of nutrients, hormones, drugs, and naturally produced toxins. It also slows the production of proteins and other substances made by the liver. Treatment: 1. The Ayurvedic treatment of cirrhosis of the liver focuses on treating the cause, reducing or reversing the damage done, and preventing further damage to the liver. Medicines like Arogya-Vardhini, Shankh-Vati, Sharpunkha (Tephrosia purpuria), Kutki (Picrorrhiza kurroa), Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa), Bhrungraj (Eclipta alba) and Tamra-Bhasma are used to reduce swelling, inflammation and blockage in the liver cells. 2. If you suspect you have cirrhosis, see your doctor immediately. The disease is diagnosed through observation of symptoms, a blood test, or a liver biopsy. A biopsy, in which a sample of liver tissue is examined microscopically, is the most accurate means of diagnosis. 3. Abstain from alcohol - Alcohol abuse is the single most important reason for liver damage. Up to 100 percent of heavy drinkers show evidence of fatty liver, about 10 to 35 percent develop alcoholic hepatitis, and 10 to 20 percent develope cirrhosis. 4. Milk Thistle is recommended as a herbal remedy for liver damage. In addition the ayurvedic formulation Liv 52 is also well known for detoxification and liver support in cirrhotic and pre-cirrhotic conditions. Its ingredients include Capers (Capparis spinosa), Wild chicory (Cichorium intybus) Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna), Negro coffee (Cassia occidentalis), Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), Tamarisk (Tamarix gallica) 5. Vitamin A is an important immune system stimulant. DR. Nauss reported a reduced T-cell immune response in patients with a Vitamin A deficiency. Vitamin A deficiency may increase the risk of cancers of the lung, larynx, bladder, esophagus, stomach, colon, rectum and prostate. 6. Acupuncture Acupuncture can help; strengthen and restore energy balance to the liver, kidney, and heart, which are impaired by excessive drinking. It can also curb alcohol cravings and symptoms of withdrawal, making the individual's recovery more comfortable. 7. Chinese Herbal Therapy In cirrhosis, Chinese herbs are used to help cleanse and strengthen the liver and associated organs, and to improve circulation within the meridians. 8. Zinc is needed for healing and maintaining healthy tissues. Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein and are the vital components of skin, hair, muscle tissue, the body's organs, blood cells, various enzymes and hormones. Zinc also has a profound influence on the body's ability to resist disease. 9. Your sodium intake typically needs to be regulated and/or restricted with cirrhosis. Unfortunately, this means no salt on your eggs, steak, or ice cream! However, salt is an acquired taste, so, just like any difficult habit it will get easier as time goes on. 10. Look for a good multi-vitamin that's easily soluble, organic, and contains the nutrients your body needs. (to replace those vitamins your liver couldn't handle) Read About home remedies Also Read About home remedies for cholesterol and home remedies for cirrhosis of liver | | 12:04 pm |
Treatment for Chafing Skin Chafing is a common problem and it usually occurs in places such as the thighs, the groin, the armpits, the nipples, and generally any area that is rubbed constantly. It is particularly common in athletes and people who wear really tight clothing and it can be a frustrating problem. There are usually no gradual symptoms that lead up to chafing, it is generally a condition which appears suddenly, and it is followed by a stinging or burning sensation. It is important that you do get the condition treated, as if you simply just carry on allowing the skin to rub together, the condition could worsen and even start to ooze. This can then cause the skin to become infected and you could have an even more painful condition to deal with! Treatment: 1. Chafed skin will heal faster if it is left uncovered and allowed to breathe. While this may not be possible during the day, make sure that your sleepwear is loose and comfortable so that your skin can get some "airtime" while you snooze. 2. If you want to prevent chafing, you should wear loose fitting shorts, preferably knit, such as long gym shorts. What causes chafing is your upper thigh rubbing against the material in the clothing you're wearing. It's not something you really notice until it's too late. 3. When you do your laundry, be sure to thoroughly rinse the soap from your clothes. And it is recommended not to use strong detergents or heavily perfumed fabric softeners. These products can cause skin irritation and make the chafing even worse. 4. Chafed skin will heal faster if it is left uncovered and allowed to breathe. While this may not be possible during the day, make sure that your sleepwear is loose and comfortable so that your skin can get some "airtime" while you snooze. 5. Using ointment or treatments such as Vaseline and Noxzema will really help to soothe the affected area. They help to keep the skin slippery, which allows the skin on the legs for example, to slip past each other, rather than rub against each other. These treatments can be really inexpensive, yet they are also really effective. 6. If you really want to stop chafing, you need to lose weight. Luckily, as obesity rates climb, the possibility of weight loss becomes more tangible. Weight loss is a good thing. It makes you more healthy, makes you look better, and it stops chafing! As I previously mentioned, losing weight is becoming easier. 7. A second option is to wear sweat pants. They're not really "cool" anymore, but if you're not worried about that, and you want to prevent chafing, they're great. That's because they have no seams. Seams are usually the culprit in chafing. They're the part of your pants that are rubbing up against your leg. Some people have found that lathering their thighs up with petroleum jelly works wonders. The jelly makes the sweat pants actually stick to your thigh, so there's no rubbing at all. Treatment for Canker Sores If you are the one suffering from canker sores, then I don't need to describe how painful and annoying that they are. You probably already know more about the pain than you'd like to know. While no one really understands what causes canker sores, there are numerous things you can do to instigate a home remedy for a nasty canker sore. Here are some tips. Treatment: 1. Put 5-7 drops of grapefruit seed extract in a glass of water and drink it three times a day. Grapefruit seed extract has the reputation of being an excellent anticeptic. Be warned, though, it tastes worse than awful. Use a strong juice like grape juice to disguise the flavor of the grapefruit seed extract. As a little side note, this is also my mother-in-law's cure for the common cold also! 2. Over the counter covering and numbing preparations may also be of help relieve the pain i.e., Orabase, or Colgate Soothe and Seal. 3. Rubbing aloe, lemon balm extract, or tea bags to cold sores is also known to lessen their size and help reduce pain. Drinking less coffee is another home remedy for cold sores. It is believed that coffee can be a catalyst in the formation of cold sores. It is recommended that people who are susceptible to cold sores cut back on their coffee intake. 4. Mylanta - It may seem strange, but many health professionals suggest swishing around Mylanta in your mouth. You don't need to swallow it though. This will help to coat the canker sore and also treat some of the bacteria. It should also help relieve the pain. 5. Potassium chlorate is also an effective home canker sore remedy. The patient just combines a teaspoon of the potassium chlorate with a cup of water and gargles with it several times each day. This should not be swallowed, just swished around in the mouth and then spat out. 6. Try using liquids or ointments that have a numbing agent such as benzocaine (Anbesol, Orabase, Tanac) that will help relieve the discomfort of canker sores 7. Since emotions change naturally, we can expect that eventually the canker sore will go away. Sometimes, though, the emotion persists...and so do the canker sores. The key now becomes to let go of the negative emotion at will, instead of having to wait for chance to release it. 8. Baking soda is a time honored remedy that can be used in powder form, or made into a paste and applied directly to the sore. This is another one that might sting a bit at first, but repeated treatments are reported to clear up canker sores in a couple of days. 9. If none of these ideas help there are some more intense things you can try. Talk to your doctor about getting some canker sore relief. It is possible that you are allergic to a food or several foods that irritating your mouth. You may be referred to an allergist for testing. If the tests come back showing that you are allergic to certain foods, then you need to eliminate the offending food and see if that helps. Bursitis and its Treatment What is bursitis, you ask? The "-tis" at the end of the word bursitis tells you it's an inflammation. It's caused by an inflamed bursa, a small jelly-like, often fluid-containing sac found throughout the body. A bursa is usually located at the point of your shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, and elbows. The bursa cushions the soft tissues against the hard bone and reduces the friction that gliding muscles make against the surface of the bone. Common symptoms of bursitis include a dull ache or stiffness near the elbow, hip, knee, shoulder, big toe or other joints; a worsening of pain with movement or pressure; swelling, warmth and redness in the area. Treatment: 1. Medicines like Trayodashang-Guggulu, Tapyadi-Loh and Ekang-Veer-Ras are used for prolonged periods. If the bursitis is due to an infection, medicines like Sukshma-Triphala, Panch-Tikta-Ghrut-Guggulu and Gandhak-Rasayan are used in order to treat bursitis. 2. Acupuncture Acupuncture can help reduce the inflammation and relieve the stiffness that accompanies bursitis, and it may promote the drainage of excess fluid. Acupoints targeted vary, depending on whether the pain is located in the hip, knee, or shoulder. Acupressure Acupressure can be used to alleviate the pain and inflammation associated with bursitis. 3. In most cases, bursitis can be effectively treated by completely resting the affected joint. However, there are also a few easy-to-use home remedies which can assist in relieving bursal inflammation. 4. Turmeric - Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. The active ingredient, curcumin, is responsible for these properties and in studies has shown to be as effective as potent anti-inflammatory drugs, but without the side effects. Turmeric can be taken internally as well as used topically. 5. Bodywork is a Swedish massage treatment using rhythmic, flowing strokes directed toward the heart. There are several different forms of bodywork that are useful to treat the chronic joint pain of bursitis sufferers. 6. Bursitis can disappear within 2 weeks if the joint is given absolute rest. During this "time off," RICE therapy (rest, ice, compression, and elevation) is recommended, and many sufferers wear special braces or wraps to keep the area immobilized. Aspirin can be used to keep inflammation in check. Some physicians inject cortisone into the affected joint. 7. Physical therapist. While rest is prescribe as a care and relief, on the other hand exercise can help relieve some areas of the body. A therapist can go through a variety of exercises with you including range of motion to help get your joints back in shape. These variety in movement will allow the area to go through a range of motions, as the area affected was normally dominated by one movement. 8. Because shoulder bursitis is a similar symptom as shoulder tendinitis, a rotator cuff physical therapy strengthening program will prove effective. These strengthening programs will help with regaining strength and full motion of the shoulder. 9. The Ayurvedic treatment of bursitis is aimed at controlling the pain and reducing the swelling and inflammation in the bursae. Medicines like Triphala-Guggulu, Yograj-Guggulu, Kaishor-Guggulu, Vat-Gajankush-Ras, Maha-Vat-Vidhwans-Ras and Vish-Tinduk-Vati are used to control pain. Treatment for Bed Sores It is very common in people who are hospitalized, in nursing homes or being treated at home. In the initial stages the bed sore is red in color with terrible pain and finally turns purple. If it is not treated properly the sore breaks open to cause infection. Further complications can take place if starts infecting the bone and other muscle areas. Common areas of infection are hip, spine, lower back, elbows, heels, buttocks and shoulder blades.
Bedsores are not a pleasant topic. But they can be a fact of life for anyone who can''t care for themselves, from an ailing parent confined to a wheelchair to a bedridden friend facing an extended recuperation from an accident or chronic condition. Also called pressure ulcers, bedsores are caused by constant pressure on part of the body, usually on areas that cover a bony area, such as the lower back, hips, buttocks, and heels.
Treatment:
1. Avoid raising the head of the bed more than 30 degrees. A higher incline makes it more likely that you''ll slide down, putting you at risk of friction and shearing injuries. If the bed needs to be higher when you eat, place pillows or foam wedges at your hips and shoulders to help maintain alignment.
2. Pouring sugar and honey poultice on the wound, it removes the poison from the wound.
3. Avoid massaging skin over bony areas. Change body position at least every 2 hours- more frequently in a chair. Reduce friction ( rubbing) by lifting rather than dragging. Do not use donut shape cushions. These can increase the risk of getting pressure ulcers by reducing blood flow in the areas of contact with the cushion.
4. Have nutritious food enriched with vitamins, minerals like zinc and other important health elements. Drink water as much as you can and avoid dehydration. This will help in strengthening the immune system of the body.
5. The wedges can be used to treat and/or prevent various conditions, such as sleep apnea, snoring, bed sores, etc. The wedges may also be made from foam rubber or the like in which case the inflation is not required.
6. Mix powdered comfrey leaves and slippery elm in equal parts to make a paste. Put this paste on piece of cloth and tie it to the sore overnight. To disinfect the area you can sprinkle goldenseal or echinacea powder. Later cover it with cotton.
7. Fill Lysol in a spray can and spray it daily on the entire body.
8. You can also apply zinc oxide ointment, aloe vera, wheat germ oil or comfrey.
9. Padding made of sheepskin also reduces the moisture produced on the skin when you lie in one position or area for too long. Sheepskin fibers can hold 30 to 36% of the moisture without becoming damp. The elimination of moisture from the skin and into the fibers is another way of relieving or even preventing bed sores from happening.
